Federal Appeal / Where Things Stand Now“I finally got a real judge who finally read the record for the first time.” In New York State, county judges as well as state appellate justices are elected to ten-year terms of office. By contrast, federal judges have life-time appointments. Therefore the latter are, hopefully, better insulated from the political pressures faced by state judges. In March of 2006, a federal appeal -- known as a Writ of Habeas Corpus -- was filed in the district court of the Northern District of New York. It is still pending. Links |
